An Update to Walmart Named Data Policy

Hidden Image

Walmart is taking an important step forward in how it manages and shares Walmart’s data across its partner ecosystem. With data playing an increasingly central role in decision-making, the company continuously evaluates its data access frameworks to ensure they remain responsible, consistent, and transparent. Through this ongoing governance discipline—including regular audits of existing agreements—Walmart is evolving its approach to better align with the scale and sophistication of today’s data environment. These updates reinforce strong governance, protect both Walmart and its customers, and enable suppliers to collaborate more effectively with Walmart merchant teams through clearly defined standards and controls.

At the core of this update is a new requirement tied to Walmart Named Data programs. Beginning May 1, 2026, suppliers will need a Scintilla subscription to access Walmart data through syndicated partners. For those who already have approved access but are not yet subscribed, there is a transition window: they must become active Scintilla Charter subscribers by January 31, 2027, to maintain their access. This evolution reflects both the need for consistent oversight across all data-sharing pathways and the opportunity to bring suppliers into a more unified, governed ecosystem.

This change builds on the strong foundation Walmart has established with Scintilla, which has become a central platform for supplier–merchant collaboration. It provides a single source of truth for Walmart-specific data, grounded in consistent definitions, strong governance, and more granular, frequently refreshed insights that support day-to-day decision-making.

Syndicated data providers continue to play an important role, offering broad, cross-retailer market views that help suppliers benchmark performance and understand category trends. Scintilla complements this perspective by focusing specifically on Walmart—enabling deeper, more actionable insights and closer collaboration with merchant teams. By aligning Walmart Named Data access with Scintilla, Walmart is ensuring that all access to its data, including through third parties, meets the same standards of quality, governance, and usability across this ecosystem.
