How Scintilla BI Link saved Welch Foods, Inc.™ an estimated 225 hours per year
Access to Walmart first-party data via Scintilla can help save time and boost the customer experience ahead of a natural disaster

A typical day for Jonathan, an analyst working on Welch Foods, Inc.’s™ Walmart team, looked like the traditional day for anyone in his role. He started his days by logging into Scintilla and navigating to Report Builder. He then opened, refreshed, and downloaded up to six different reports before uploading them into Welch’s preferred data tool for further analysis.
That’s nearly an hour of daily data management.
And when Jonathan was out sick or on vacation? He still had to log in and pull the necessary reports or train a colleague on the processes and procedures to ensure the data continued to flow in his absence.
But that all changed when Walmart Data Ventures launched BI Link for Scintilla. Now, Welch’s Walmart data is accessed directly in Power BI, their analytic tool of choice. Its constant connection ensures the data is always up-to-date–regardless of PTO status. Jonathan estimates that BI Link saves him 225 hours per year, with room to grow that number as he builds out additional dashboards.
With this increase of nine full days’ worth of time to his work year, Jonathan and the team at Welch’s have been able to dive into Walmart granular, first-party data and surface with greater insights. An example includes when they noticed that sales for their Jam & Jelly spreads were positively trending in a group of seemingly random stores. When he isolated those stores and pulled the data in by state, he developed a hypothesis based on their geographic region that the trend was weather-related. Further analysis revealed that the spike in sales at these stores coincided with the middle of hurricane season.
With these insights uncovered through Scintilla BI Link, Welch’s worked with their Walmart team to stock those stores with additional spreads during hurricane season.
