Reflecting on Inspire 2026

Hear first-hand from Head of Product at Data Ventures, Pat Murphy, on where Scintilla is headed — and the ideas and insights he took away from Inspire.

Two weeks to the day post-Inspire, I've had some time to reflect on the incredible experience that is our annual marquee event: one that continues to grow in size and expectation.

I was honored to take the stage in front of 2,000 Walmart suppliers, merchants, and associates—and have the opportunity to share the driving product vision for Scintilla and Scintilla In-Store.

I’m so excited about where we’re headed, and I think that excitement was palpable to everyone in that big room. The Scintilla evolution is not just a mission statement, and the journey we’re on is not just a roadmap. We’ve taken big steps already this year, driven by our subscribers’ voices, participation in beta testing, and ongoing feedback to keep us on the right path.

What I shared

We are evolving from a series of deep, descriptive analytics modules to a Commerce Intelligence Platform: hinged on the principles of integration, intelligence, and actionability.

Suppliers and merchants alike need granular and reliable data to fuel their decision-making—and we’ll continue to deliver that. But they also need the data and analytics to be seamlessly integrated. They need a prescriptive intelligence layer to pull out the “so-what” driving decisions and actions. And they need interoperability across the Walmart ecosystem best enabling those actions.

We’ve heard that loud and clear from you.

So here’s what we’re focused on delivering in Scintilla:

  • The evolution of our Scintilla Boards library to include fully flexible Boards—so you can easily build your own take on our Business Overview Board or any other quick view appropriate for your business or specific role, delivering a more integrated and custom experience for users.
  • Scintilla Opportunities, slated to deliver on the promise of the “intelligence” layer in Commerce Intelligence Platform by proactively flagging anomalies, surfacing insights, and recommending actions to take. See proactively where you may be able to act on potential out of stocks and other remediable use cases saving users time and effort.
  • And Custom Alerts—because in addition to what we think you want to know, you know what else you need to know. You’ll be able to set your own thresholds for metrics and be alerted as they take a dip or spike giving you more flexibility and control.

And nowhere better does this evolution of capabilities come together to drive down time-to-action than with Scintilla In-Store. The integrated power of Boards, Opportunities, and Custom Alerts will enable roles like supply chain analysts to better direct actions of field merchandisers–keeping products in place and in stock, driving sales, and serving and delighting customers in the process. This same visibility and intelligence will allow analysts and brands to see actions taken and the ROI driven by their investments. We are creating a closed loop ecosystem.

And we’re especially excited about how we’re thoughtfully deploying AI across this ecosystem. That’s coming to life with Marty, our super-agent and Scintilla companion: allowing you to engage with all of these capabilities and tools in an easy, conversational manner. Today you can easily search the Knowledge Base and Data Dictionary. But Marty for Scintilla has an even brighter future emerging. One day you’ll be able to build a Board or customer survey with Marty, or facilitate a multi-step analysis and receive recommendations with context.

What I heard and saw

One additional piece that I shared during my main-stage presentation is how much I love the Inspire case studies. We can’t build great products unless we continuously sharpen our understanding of user problems and how to best solve them.

This year, I was amazed to see the breadth across SBUs and markets, and how deeply they dove into the Scintilla Insights Model (SIM), as well as the fuller Walmart interoperability story. Nearly 1 out of 4 case studies featured Walmart Connect activations.

I was also enthused to see the conversations unfolding in the Learning Lounge, featuring Product Managers, Product Marketing Managers, and the customer-facing experts across our SIM Double-Click Learning sessions this year.

Similarly, I loved seeing a triple-digit engagement on our Build Your Own Dream Board activations in the hallway, a teaser to the flexible (custom) boards experience I outlined. Our Boards experience allowed attendees to customize a Board based on a set of 8 SIM outcomes, and the top three winners were:

Am I growing my brand’s digital penetration?

What are my biggest opportunities for innovation?

Are my items in the right stores and channels?

In summary

It was a great Inspire, and I remain inspired by our journey—especially after having conversations with many suppliers at the event. The vision, always informed by you, is clear.

We are driving to a Commerce intelligence Platform—and hopefully you can see the early, but significant, results of accelerating the connection from intelligence to action.

And trust we remain energized—but in the meantime, thank you for a great two days together.
