Metrolina Greenhouses is a live plants supplier with products throughout Walmart Lawn and Garden Centers. When they wanted to improve their performance in Walmart stores, they turned to Scintilla to better understand Walmart shoppers and help break down in-store factors that could be hurting their sales. Their deep dive centered on three main points of emphasis: Lawn and Garden Center gates needed to stay open for customers, registers in Lawn and Garden Centers needed to be staffed, and the stores needed to maintain healthy plants. The data showed that these would not only help drive sales for Metrolina Greenhouses but could further drive sales throughout the store.
The Performance in Detail (PID) report in Scintilla Shopper Behavior showed that stores that provided customers consistent access through the Lawn and Garden Center gates and that had registers properly staffed in those areas had a positive effect on sales, reinforcing the idea that both physical access and efficient service are key to driving revenue.
Additionally, a deeper look into the PID report showed that product quality was the number one driving factor of sales of live plant products. After discussing their findings with their Walmart Merchant and creating a strategy for stores to help maintain product quality for live plants, Metrolina Greenhouses saw product waste decrease by over 50%. This led to reduced markdowns and more of their products available to help drive sales.
Finally, they were able to leverage Scintilla Shopper Behavior and Customer Perception modules to better understand the Walmart customer and create detailed customer profiles that helped enhance their marketing and sales strategies.
